India Office,

London, S.W.1.
4th July, 1927.
sir,
With reference to your letter of the 20th
May F 4600/310/87 and previous correspondence regarding
imports of Indian opium into Macao, I am directed by
the Secretary of State for India in Council to forward
copy of a letter from the Government of India dated 9th
June 1927.
In view of the tone of the note from the
Portuguese Minister for Foreign Affairs, dated 27th
April, Sir Austen Chamberlain will probably think it
undesirable for the present to ask H.M. Representative at
Lisbon to address a further note to the Portuguese
Government, but I am to suggest for Sir Austen
Chamberlain's consideration that it might be well to
forward a copy of this further letter from India to him
for such use as he may consider it expedient to make of
it on any future occasion.
The Under-Secretary of State,
Foreign Office,
S.W.1.
I am, etc.,
(Signed) E. J. Turner.
Secretary,
Economic and Overseas Department.
