Audit Department,

Hong Kong.

17th May, 1927.

Sir,

I have the honour to address you with

reference to the Secretary of State's Despatch, Hong

Kong 83 of the 2nd April, 1927, on the subject of

the contribution by the Government of Hong Kong towards the cost of the Singapore Base, enclosing a copy of

Colonial Office Letter No.3004/27 of 29th March from

the Under Secretary of State to the Crown Agents for

the Colonies, in which the Crown Agents are directed

to transfer to the credit of the Hong Kong General Account to sum of £14,617.0.6, representing accrued

interest on the capital sum of the contribution made

by the Government of Hong Kong.

2. It is with considerable diffidence, in

view of the correspondence quoted, that I raise the

question of the transfer to Hong Kong Account of the

interest on the Colony's contribution to the Imperial

Goverment towards the cost of the Singapore Base.

It will, however, be observed on referring to the

correspondence in C.S.0.2921/25 that His Excellency

The Governor, (Sir R. E. Stubbs, K.C.M.G.) made a

definite gift, on behalf of Hong Kong, of the sum of

£250,000. In a telegram dated 9th March, 1925, from the Secretary of State to the Governor of Hong Kong,

The Honourable

The Colonial Secretary,

Hong Kong.
