I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your
latter of the 8th. instant stating that at about 1 or 2 o'clock
that morning a large band of robbers, with painted faces and
wearing masks, broke into and robbed the house of Mr. Teo Yee
Swee. The police, you were informed, instead of arresting
the robbers, arrested Teo Yee Swee and some of his servants
and took them off. You accordingly requested me to telephone
to the Police and order their release.
I accordingly gave the orders requested and instructed
the Police to give me a detailed report on the affair.

The Chief of Police now reports that according to the
report of the Head of the Detective Department, a disturbance
was suddenly heard at Kialat at about 2 o'clock on the night
of the 8th. instant a party of detectives and armed police
was immediately led out and found that at about midnight,
residence of Mr. Teo Yee Swee of the Hock Cheong firm, near the
Japanese Consulate, had been robbed. The party immediately
separated to search, but owing to the darkness it was impossible
to find any traces of the roblers.
As certain revolvers and ammunition were discovered in Mr.
Teo Yee Swee's house he accompanied the police to the station
to be examined and was then released.
I have instructed the Chief Et Police Station to make
careful secret enquiries and have strictly enjoined on them
that they must trace and arrest the robbers and severely deal
with them and discover and restore the stolen articles.
