Dear Godfrey,
I love no returned from the country nd find your
Private Becret ry's letser to gine of the 3rd of August,
about the Doxer Indemnity Funds. I had forgotten that
you were de ling with the subjent or I would have written
to you direct.
I this there is some misunderstanding about my
letter of the Loth of July.
The point which I wished to maze was this. There
is admittedly sone doubt wheth.r it will ultimately ce
possible th t the Boxer Indemnity Funds should we handed
pack to China. You will sce that Chamberlein in nis
Letter to Amery of the 16th of May says that the recent
developments in Chin: had suggested the possibility of
n.ving to reconsider the present indemnity policy. It,
therefore,
t least argu.bic that the foru tio
seers to Br
the Provisional Conduitico as, uitin tel, prove
emp:rressing commitment and s I had not seen Leapson's
reply to the Foreign Office telegra of the Lord of May,
G. Locker-Lempson, Esq., .P.
