Dear Sirs,
CANTON SITUATION.
We hear today that the Anti-British Boycott Society
have requested the Chamber of Commerce in Canton to telegraph
to Shanghai to instruct Shippers in the North (presumably through Chambers of Commerce) to cease shipping cargo by the
Indi-China Steam Navigation Company, and the China Navigation Company, Ltd., We suggest you telegraph to Shanghai to ascertain whether any such message has been received there. Keantime, our Compradore is approaching some of the leading merchants here with a view to ascertaining what the position is.
With reference to Mr. Crowe's report of date, although the "LUSHAN MARU" is actually discharging some cargo,
we cannot obtain any confirmation of the report that the
Japanese boycott has been withdrawn.
We are, etc.,
