FRONTIER INCIDENTS.
1. MIRS BAY
The north-ease coast and hinterland of Kirs
Bay has, in the past week, been the venue of a small
rebellion engineered by ex-followers of General Chan
Kwing Ming. It was a short-lived affair as, although
the rebels met with some initial success they were
speedily routed and dispersed by regular troops sent
from Wai Chau. The story of the rebellion, or as much
of it as has been gathered, is as follows:-
Prior
On the 27th August, 1927, e sudden raid was
made upon Tai Pang City by over 200 men led, it is said,
by Wong Fuk Chi, Wong Hoi Tsai, Li Hon Tong and Yeung
Kai Ming, all former officers under General Chan Kwing
King. The raid upon Tai Pang was only a partial success,
as the rebels were stoutly resisted by the local "Po On
Tun". The next effort of the rebels was to raid the
market town of Wong Mo, inland from Sha U Chung.
to the attack on Tai Pang word had been sent General Wu
Him, at Wai Chau, that rebels were planning an uprising,
and as a precautionary measure, General Wu, on the 26th
August, 1927, despatched to Tai Pang a small body of
troops, numbering 80. These troops arrived at Au Tau,
Bias Bay, on the 28th, where they embarked on Tang Man
Lit's launch, the "Wai Po", which took them to Tip Fuk,
Mirs Bay, where they arrived at about 08.00 hours on the
29th. About 11.00 hours, same date, while these troops
were partaking of food in a small shop in Tip Fuk, they
were suddenly attacked by an overwhelming force of
