At present Mr. Wong is still letting his passion-nature
lead his will. He supposes that only a scholar is
qualified to speak of a party, and that any soldier may
become a war-lord. Mr. Tseung Kai Shek is the very
object of his attack, and he has been displeased with the
mention of the name of Tseung together with his. The
ancients have said, "Do not raise any argument with
anybody who entertains any prejudice in his mind, until
his anger has been gradually calmed down". This is indeed
a true saying. Therefore the proposed conference at Kai-
fang can never be successfully convened early, and you
will realize this later, though you are very anxious for
it.
We treat as friends all who help us, keep away
all who do us harm, and consider all who plan our
destruction, as enemies.
This is a fair bargain, and we
have no need to appear to be too honest.
Of late Wuhan has announced the crimes of the
Communists, confessing that they have not only found
that they have made a blunder, but also that they have
discovered the intrigues the Communists have perpetrated.
But they have only advanced another step after the 20th
March, keeping the Communists away, and have not yet had
the determination we had on the 15th April. We had the
determination merely because we felt ashamed of the
Communists and treated them as our enemies.
Since we had
a disagreement with them, they could not fail to show
favour to the other party. This is the usual behaviour
of men. We have been patient for one year, and why should
we fail to leave Mr. Wong alone a little longer and force
him to do what he does not like.
