condition of affairs in Hunan, Hupeh, and Kiangsi and
all of you who are natives of Hunan, Hupeh and Kiangsi
must be aware of this. Look! you have been fighting
desperately at the front yet your parents are subject
to such hardship and misery at home. My military com-
rades! In giving up to the Communists to carry out their terrible experiments in government, the provinces
which you have won at the sacrifice of your blood and
at the risk of your lives, you have not only been un-
grateful to your country but also to your ancestors
and your own selves. They have made every endeavour
to stir up dissension among our revolutionary workmen
and peasants. Cur national revolutionary armies sacri-
ficed many lives and fought many battles before they
could take Shanghai, but the Communists fraudulently
claimed that the capture of Shanghai was the result of
their efforts and cruelly spread a libel that we
had killed 3,000 workmen after the fall of the city.
Shanghai is open to the eyes and ears of both Chinese and foreigners. How could such a groundless rumour have
arisen? Later the Communists attempted to start a
general strike so as to cause a disturbance in our rear. They were not satisfied with oppressing us with their
labour pickets who are nothing more than beggarly rascals, but went even further; they enlisted numbers of the
defeated soldiers of Pat Shu Ching and Chang Chung Chang,
furnished them with machine-guns and other weapons, and
set then to massacre our military comrades. their attack on the Headquarters of our 26th Army and 2nd Division on the 13th April, more than 90 of them were arrested, of whom about 40 wore special badges of
the Chihli and Shangtung troops of our enemies.
