Messrs. Deacon & Co., Ltd.
Canton.
Dear Sirs,
13th July, 1927.
15
SEAMEN'S UNION.
Your letter of 11th instant enclosing a list of
conditions presented by the Union to Mr. P.M. Young was placed
before my Directors at a Board Meeting held this AM. After
discussion it was decided that, as the Farming Syndicate were
still hopeful of a settlement being reached on original terms
proposed by the Directors, to allow the Syndicate, through the
"Taishan" Compradore, to carry on negotiations for a few days
more as it would be a pity to spoil matters by breaking off
concluding negotiations it in order to re-open them before
different parties. Should these negotiations finally prove of
no avail then, the suggestion of Mr. Young of a meeting between
representative of the Union, Steamboat Company, and the Canton Government may be complied with but, for the present the
Directors only wish you to thank Mr. Young for his offer of
assistance which is greatly appreciated and is receiving the
full consideration of the Board.
A further letter regarding the proposed meeting will
be sent to you within the course of the next few days after I
have received instructions from my Directors.
Yours faithfully.
Acting Secretary.
