With reference to your letter 30001 C/27,

dated 29 th October, to the Foreign Office, respecting
the procedure to be followed in cases of firing upon
British vessels by Chinese forts, I am commanded by My
Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to acquaint you
that They concur in the view of the Secretary of State
for the Colonies, that the arrangement reached between
the Commander-in-Chief, China, and Sir Miles Lampson
should remain in force, pending further experience.
