NORTHERN ADVANCE.

Chinkiang, July 26. According to reports received here, the Northern troops have pushed on as far as Tsing Kiang Pu, and with the exception of the Commissioner's house troops have taken up their quarters in Cus- toms' property.

General Ho Ying-ching, en route from Nanking to Shanghai, has passed through, and a report has

been received to the effect that General Wang Peh-sing will reach here to-day.

Men of the 58th. regiment, controlled directly by General Ho Ying-ching, are in occupation of the concession, and the ninth transport has now arrived in har- bour.

Later.

There is a big concentration of troops here, who have occupied all buildings at both the conces- sion and the Consulate. Efforts are being made to communicate with the responsible authorities. Naval Wireless.

Shanghai, July 27.

General Feng Yu-hsiang has telegraphed to Nanking that two brigades of his army are marching on Hsuchow to help the Nanking Army in the war with Shantung. An important delegation from Feng Yu-hsiang arrived at Nan- king yesterday to confer the mili- tary party on the Shantung mili- tary campaign.-Wah Kiu Yat Po..

Chiang Kai-shek Appoints Eight Field Marshals.

Canton, July 27. General Fan Shek-sang, who was recently sent up to the North River with part of his Yunnanese army, returned to Canton yester- day afternoon to report to General Li Chai-sum the completion of the North River defence.

Cheng-hsum (commands chuen in Chungking vicinity) is Field Marshal of the Sixth Force, General Chau Shi-cheng, com- mands the armies in Kwaichow province, who now threatens to attack Hunan from the west) com- mands the Seventh force, and General Li Chai-sum, who com- mands the Liangkwang armies, is therefore the Field Marshal of the Eighth Force.

It is understood however that the precedence of these Field- Marshals is not arranged accord- ing to strength or reputation but by territories.-A Correspondent.

General Fan's troops, who re- cently arrived from Kwangsi and have been sent up to the North river to join the anti-Red expedi- tion, are now being concentrated in Shiukwan and vicinity.

According to military circles, General Hu Not Yet in Full instead of sending them into Hunan as was planned, General Fan's army will be assigned to the Kiangsi expedition. The rea- son for this is that most of the. "Reds" in Kiangsi are Yunnanese troops under General Chu Pei-teh and may be won over.
