Government at Nanking".
The Nationalist Government has in hand sound schemes
for solving under the direction of the Kuomintang all questions
pertaining to the livelihood of the whole people. They realise
that there is not sufficient wealth in China for proper
distribution among all, and do not want all to be reduced
permanently to the position of ricksha coolies, as would
happen under the Communist system. They desire on the contrary that the present ricksha coolies should have the opportunity of raising themselves to a level where they may inhabit handsome houses and have good food and clothing and be generally
well off. They want to develop the industries of China and raise the Chinese workmen to the same position as that of American workmen who are all very happy and go to work in
Ford cars, or to an even better position. Therefore we should
have as our thirteenth slogan, "The Nationalist Government is a Government that will work for the prosperity of the people.
While we are creating wealth we must see to it
that no foreign Imperialists rob us or hinder our progress. Therefore we must make every effort to recover control of our
Customs, resume the Concessions and secure the abolition of
the unequal treaties, so that China may no longer play the
part of the cormorant, which is tied by the neck and made to catch fish for others. We should also endeavour to promote
a keen demand for Chinese goods abroad, so that our economic
system may spread out round the world and China may no longer remain in a poverty stricken isolation and our unemployed workmen may become prosperous. Therefore our fourteenth
slogan should be "The Nationalist Government is a Government
that will create wealth for the people".
