They have done their utmost to oppress our

52

Revolutionary troops. For instance, Chan Ming Shui, Commander

of the 11th Army, who had attacked Hunan vigorously, taken

Wuhan, and fought many battles in Kiangsi, was compelled

to flee from them, while he was in Wuhan as City Garrison

Commissioner, because he was a faithful supporter of the

principles of the "Three Aspects of Democracy" and refused to surrender himself to the Communist Party. Again several

hundred students of the Wuhan Branch of the Central Military and Political Academy were also imprisoned in consequence of their refusal to support them. They would kill without

good excuse any officer or soldier, who had no sympathy

with Communism and instances of this kind were heard of

everyday. Some of them were reduced to such a helpless condition that they had to commit suicide by drowning

themselves in the river. Indeed under such influence and

gloony circumstances none of our bright and upright

revolutionary soldiers can maintain his footing or secure

a burial place.

Our comrades! The Communists under certain

pretexts have usurped our base at Wuhen which we acquired

in return for the sacrifice of the heads and fresh blood

of our military comrades, and not satisfied with this,

they have even gone so far as not to allow us to remain

there a minute. If we do not fight hard and remove the

traitors so as to render them unable to cause disturbances

at our rear, can we still have any hope of accomplishing

our National Revolution?
