In response to the wish of some Canton officials as transmitted to the Governor of Hong Kong through the British Consul General in Canton to meet representatives of the Hong Kong British Press, the Chinese Correspondent of the Hong Kong Daily Press paid a special call at the Political Department of the General Headquarters at Canton.

Before doing so, he called Wednesday morning, May

11th, at the British Consul General at Canton, Mr. John F. Brenan, who showed much interest in the visit but expressed the fear that the Chinese Correspondent would not get much

out of the proposed interview. He told the Correspondent that on Tuesday, the 10th, he had instructed the Vice-Consul to bring the representatives of the Reuter's, the China Mail, and the South China Morning Post to see the Director of the

Political Bureau on similar mission as the Hong Kong Daily Press

but was told, on their return, that the call had resulted with disappointment to all concerned. At first place, the party calling was told that the Director of the Bureau (Mr. Tsang Yeung Po) had been sick for some days and would be unable to receive guests. When finally received, the party was met by a young man, not very courteous to the Vice-Consul and other visitors. When talking, this young man, apparently but a graduate just coming out of school, fired out the usual "anti-imperialist" slogans and complaints that the British Press, especially that of Hong Kong, has been particularly unsympathetic with the Kuomintang cause and the like.
