I have read in your issue of the 5th April

a letter from Hak Lok (Crull), German Consul at Canton, stating that a paragraph in your issued of the 2nd and 3rd March has been brought to his notice, entitled "Attitude of various Political Parties in Germany towards the Chinese National Revolution", and suppliedto you by our Agency. The Consul alleges that our reporter has not realized the objects of the German Colonial Move- ment and points but that Germany has never considered Tsing Tao as its colony, and for fear of misunderstand- ing between China and Germany, asks that a correction

be made.

In reply I beg to point out that the first

part of our report as published in your issues of the

2nd and 3rd March reads thus: "

majority of the capitalists in Germany are still anxious

to acquire a colony in China, and advocate that if for

the time being they cannot attain this end, they should

appeal for the help of the League of Nations". But the German Consul in his letter of the 4th April, has

changed the words "the majority of the capitalists in Germany" into "the majority of the people of Germany", and this is a matter of great regret for me. I am one of the representatives in China for the China Press,

Berlin, and I cannot let pass such an alteration in the text of amy article as might probably lead to all sorts
