Our resumption of the Hankow Concession has not only focussed the attention of the Imperialists but has also seriously affected the Peking officials and militarists. According to the latest news the spurious Foreign Office at Peking has had negotiations with the Diplomatic Corps with a view to the resumption of the Tientsin Concession. This movement of theirs was prompted by the boldness we have recently shown in resuming the concession at Hankow. They felt ashamed when they compared themselves with us, and therefore they availed themselves of the opportunity to demand from the Diplomatic Corps the retum of the Concessions at Tientsin in order to regain some part of the popularity they have lost and to prolong the fast-expiring life of their militarist Government. humble appeal of theirs for indulgence from the Imperialists cannot, I venture to say, have any prospect of succes.. without the support of the masses. When we compare them with our Kuomintang which has adhered to its principles and policies for the past several decades and has gained the support of the masses, we shall see how tremendous a power lies in our Democratic Principles and the success of our propaganda work.
