QUESTION: What is your opinion as to the opening of
Whampoa as a commercial Port?
ANSWER: The opening of Whampoa as a Commercial Port
is also part of the policy for resisting economic victimisa- tion by the Imperialists. I strongly approve of it and shall do my utmost to help its accomplishment. The Government has appropriated $100,000 a month for its opening. Although
this is a small amount, if our people are eager and ready to invest money in it so as to co-operate with the Government in getting the work begun at an early date, then the new port will be established as easily as turning the
hand over.
