THE HONG KONG CANTON & ACAO STEAMBOAT CO., LTD.
B.
HONG KONG, 4th April, 1927.
Messrs. Deacon & Co., Ltd.,
Canton.
Dear Sirs,
SOCIAL ROCKS
I confirm wire of today advising that Directors are willing to grant a room for use of crew for social purposes, provided
that such accommodation is under the control of the laster and
subject to inspection by ship's officers whenever requested.
It must also be distinctly understood that this room will not be used for any political object, or for any purpose likely to cause annoyance to passengers or damage to ship. These condit-
ions are in line with Union's letter of 25th March and failure
to observe them will result in this privilege being withdrawn.
The question of providing social rooms on all the Company's
vessels on Canton run has been under consideration for some tic
past but the unwarranted action of the crew of the "Kinshan" has unfortunately prejudiced the position and delayed a decision The Directors feel that the crew in deserting the ship have
acted in a manner that cannot be overlooked and with the
exception of those who came with the ship to Hong Kong, their re-employment on the "Kinshan" cannot, under any circumstances,
be countenanced.
The vessel is at present in dock at Taikoo and requires a
crew as soon as posible. Please therefore arrange with the Union for a new crew to be sent down without delay. As an act of grace, we are prepared to pay deserting crew wages for March,
on application to this office.
Yours faithfully,
Acting Secretary.
