British mass movement. We must have all our people to know
that the British Imperialists are playing a wicked game
against us. We should remove in the sight of our masses the
mask of kindness put on by the British, and expose their
wickedness and maliciousness. By "good understanding" and
"sympathetic attitude" the British Imperialists mean that they desire that the internal contention of China may be prolonged and unification delayed to a more remote time so as to aggravate the hardships of the people. The more the Imperialists help the militarists, the more certain the latter will be to be overthrown, and this has already become
a fixed rule. Though such assistance is to the benefit of the militarists, yet at the same time it will rouse dissension among them and lead to corruption. And the present case in which England is helping Chang (Tso Lin) and Shuan (Chun Fong) will have the same result. The Imperialist are like the elf in the Greek fairy tale, which had the body of a snake and the head of a girl, and anybody who gazed
upon her was turned into stone. The militarists who are the
favourites of the Imperialists, will have the same fate.
On the suggestion of the British Imperialists to
aid the Mukdenese militarists, with the surtax, there have already been signs of rupture of the relation between Japan and Mukden and of dissension between England and Japan. The reason why Japan objects to the surtax of 21% is because the products she generally exports into China are of cheap quality, and the surtax will affect their sale. They are not like British goods which are generally dear and will
