With reference to our conversation yesterday, I have got reliable information that a secret meeting in connection with the strike question was again held yesterday afternoon. The resolution was finally not passed, as I had already instructed a part of the men to raise objection. I presume that I may get some new information to-day and I will report to you again in due course.

A secret report has come to hand stating that a meeting was yesterday held in Canton by the Chinese Seamen's Union for the discussion of raising funds, and to fix a date to hold a strike. Unexpectedly when the conference was about to be held many policemen were dispatched to the scene to prohibit this. Those who attended the meeting were strictly searched by the policemen.
A theatrical performance will be shown on the S.S. Tai Shan by the Seamen on board the steamer. The performance is called "Lau Yi Fighting with foreign Devils".
This will show their object.
