Speech by Sun Fo at the Conference of the Fu-peh

Provincial Peasants, workmen, Merchants and Students'

Union.

A letter by express mail from Hankow reads as follows:-

Sun Fo, member of the Committee of the Nationalist

Government, on his arrival at Hu-peh, has proclaimed in

different leading associations the aims of the National

Revolution of the Kuomintang and the objects of its Northern

Expedition. He made a speech at the Hu-peh Provinsial

Peasants, workmen, Merchants & Students' Union, which is

now published below:-

"Gentlemen! All Representatives of Peasants, Workmen,

Merchants, and Students! During the revolution in the San

Hoi year which is 15 years ago, Wu-chang and Hankow were

the places where our righteous rising took place first

and were the centres of the revolutionists. But that

revolution failed after all. Now our revolutionary

influence has again been extended to Wu-chang and Hankow

after a period of 15 years, and these two places have

again become the centres of revolutionary influence.

I daresay that as we can now again make Wu-chang and

Hankow the centres of our revolution, we shall surely be

able to carry it through successfully. Why did we fail

in our revolution in the San Hoi year? There were

roughly 4 reasons, for which we were bound to fail.

"First, at that time our Party had not been carefully

organised and strictly disciplined, not had the members been properly trained. Many of them fought separately
