of the Diplomatic Corps on the 18th. The question of recog- nition of the Canton Government has not yet been considered

at the latest meeting of the Diplomatic Corps, nor has the Canton Government given any official or unofficial expression of their desires in this respect. Therefore the question of her recognition was not discussed at the Conference of the

Diplomatic Corps held on the 18th., nor is it a time for such

discussion, for some proper and formal negotiation must be

gone through before recognition can be given. The recognition

of the Tuan (Chi-jui) Government by the Diplomatic Corps as

a de facto one is a case in point. Therefore it cannot be

exptected that the Corps will take the initiative in offering

to recognize the Kuomintang Government.
