FRONTIER INCIDENTS.

The situation, in general, along the north-
east and north-west frontiers is as last reported.
Inter-trade is still confined to local products, but
I hear that quantities of foreign goods and kerosene
are being smuggled into Chinese Territory from Deep

Bay and around Nam Tau.

The FAN TAM

The FẪN TAN and PO TZE gambling booths at
Sham Chun have re-opened. Several natives of the
New Territories are interested in the business. Each
FAN TAN booth and each PO TZE table pays a daily
revenue of $7 and $1.80, respectively, to the Officer

in Command of the Sham Chun garrison, the money thus
collected being sent to Canton.
On the 26th inst., 100 troops arrived at im t Sham Chun from Canton to re-inforce the local garrison to assist, it is said, in suppressing the activities
of bandits.

There is nothing of special note to report from the north-west and Mirs Bay frontiers. quarters the general situation is as last reported. Trade in local produce is gradually approaching pre- strike proportions, but there is little indication
so far of a revival in foreign trade.
