refrain from anger? How much more angry would they be,
when they found that those brutal soldiers, wicked generals
and avaricious and corrupt officials were brought to the
Province by our Kak Ming Tong.

We knew clearly all the reasons why the Merchants'
Corps in Canton opposed us. But the merchants did not act in the right way. They went and asked Liu Hang Chiu to
come forward as an intermediary to get the dispute settled.
