Let me

imagine how we were aggrieved at such a condition. quote you the words of Mr. Sun, and you will understand.

Mr. Sun returned to Canton in the Spring of the 12th year (1923). In the Winter of that year, he convened a meeting of all his generals, at which Yeung Hi Man and Lau Chan Wan were also present. Mr. Sun, who appeared, was too sorry to utter a single word, and it was after fully 10 minutes then he rose and said to the Generals of the Yunnan and Kwong Sai troops, "It is very kind of you to have expelled Chan Kwing Ming for me. Formerly, I had no power whatsoever in Kwong Tung, and I had no desire to return here, and I only chose to remain in Shanghai to publish books to preach my policy to my brethen of the Province. But you sent delegates to Shanghai to see me and asked me to come back; and you promised to obey my orders and put into practice my principles. For that I was even more indebted to you. A year has now elapsed since our return, but you have only made use of my name to lay waste my country." Ponder, gentlemen, ponder upon these words of Sun. See, gentlemen, how grieved Mr. Sun was! and how much more we were, who have followed him for over 20 years!

Then Mr. Sun continued his speech, "Even this may not matter much. I am a revolutionist, and I am willing to make any sacrifice. If the destruction of Kwong Tung can benefit China, I will ask the people of the Province not to grudge any sacrifice. However, if my province is laid waste and nothing is done in the interests of the Republic, I would no longer work with you. at these words, Young Hi Man and the other generals slightly changed colour, and answered, "Our Generalissimo, why you are now so angry? We all obey you, and we leave our lives in your hand. We shall do obediently whatever you may direct us to do." Mr. Sun then pagposed the centralization of military and financial administration, and they agreed.
