INTERIM REPORT BY THE JOINT STAFFS
dealing with the acquisition of land for an aerodrome and
the formation of a local air unit.
(Note by Secretary).
The Prime Minister, on the recommendation of the
Chiefs of Staff Sub-Committee, has referred to the
Overees Defence Committee an Interim Report prepared by
the Joint Staffs, who aro at present ongaged on the
oxamination of the defence of Hong Kong in accordance
with a decision arrived at by the Chiefs of Staff Sub-
Committee at their 27th Meeting, held on 11th March, 1926,
(0.0.8. 27th Meeting, Conclusion 2 (a).

The Interim Report by the Joint Staffs, which is
attached to this Note as Appendix I, deals only with
oertain aspects of the defence of Hong Kong, namely the
dosirability that the Kal Tak reclamation area should be
acquired as a sito for an aerodrome and the question of
the formation of a small local air unit for police work,
both of which proposals were suggested by the Governor
of Hong Kong in a despatch dated 18th February, 1926.
The despatch (and enclosures) which has already roceived
consideration by the Joint Staffs is reproduced as
Appendix II to this Note.
3. The Interim Report was considered by the Chiefs of
Staff Sub-Committeo at their meeting held on 27th July,
1986, when attention was drawn to a despatch from the
Seoretary of State for the Colonies to the Governor of
Hong.....................
