I have laid before the Lords Commissioners
of His Majesty's Treasury Sir G. Grindle's letter of the 22nd ultimo 10.17417/26), and its accompanying copy of
a letter from the Foreign Office relative to the
incidence of charge of the remuneration made to the
Chief Justice of Hongkong for acting as Appeal Judge at
Shanghai.
In reply I am to request you to inform
Mr. Secretary Amery that the arrangement hitherto
prevailing under which that remuneration has been charged direct to the Hongkong Goverment's contribution
towards the maintenance of the Registry of Companies at
Shanghai is open to objection on accounting grounds, and My Lords have accordingly felt bound to decide that in
accordance with correct accounting procedure the
Hongkong Government's contribution should be credited
in gross to the Vote for Diplomatic and Consular
Inder Secretary of State,
Colonial office.
