2nd March, 1986.
I have the honour to acknowledge the resuipt today
of your telegrama Hos. 2 and 3 of January Buth and to exprasu
my grateful appreciation of the action taken.

2. The British community at Hoihow has not be en
molested in any way. Although fṣara were expressed by domestio
servante that they would be formed to go on strike on March 1st,
no such action has been taken and I consider that there is now
very little danger of such a strike or of a food boysstt.
The question of communicatione has been satisfactorily Bettled by the very public spirited action of the China Havigation Company and the Indo-China Steam Havigation Company, both of which firms have promised that any of their ships passing through the Hainm Straits ehall call at Hoihow for mails. The boycott of Hongkong and of British ships and goods
of coarse emtinues.
I have etc..
