No. 51501/25 of December 10th last, enclosing a despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong in which was raised the question of taxation of British subjects in China, I d directed by Secretary Bir Austen Chamberlain to transmit herewith for the consideration of the Lorda Commissioners of His Majesty's Troumary, copy of a despatok from His Majesty's Minister, Peking, to whom the matter was referred.
2. sir Austen Chamberlain is disposed to rega ri the present as an unfavourable junaturs at which to consider the imposition of any taxation upon British mbjeots in China; and he agrees with Sir R. Maolony in thinking that, in any case, it should not take the form of a lovy in
British Concessions.
J. He would, however, be glad to learn Their Lordships views on the subject, with particular reference to the constitutional issues referred to in Treasury letter No.
