if able to get away, be lying alongside the quays either
at North Point or in Hung Hom Bay; and it seems to me
that the effect on properly constructed quay walls in
either place of wave action direct or deflected may be
regarded as negligible.
The other question, as to whether the broken 393
water caused by wave action due to the N.E.Monsoon will
cause inconvenience to shipping at the north Foint Quays
can be best answered by pointing to past experience in
the Harbour. There is general agreement that wave
action at Kowloon Point is as great as off North Foint,
and no inconvenience is ever felt at the former position
in handling ships or lighters.
It is apparently the case that Northerly winds.
which cauze considérable wave-action in Kowloon Bay, are
checked by a downward eddy from the hills when nearing
the promontory between North Foint and quarry Bay; and there is consequently in that case smoother water off the promontory. Easterly and N.E. by E. winds cause most wave action on the line of the proposed Reclamation and to guard against the risk of an inconvenient amount of broken water along the East Section of the proposed wall, I would suggest that the portion above low water level be constructed as a series of piers, with arches above to carry the coping, and a pitched, or concrete
slope between the piers.
I do not think that any wave-action caused by ordinary Monsoon winds and deflected from the wall of the North Paint Reclamation would have an appreciable
effect in Hung Hom Bay.
