(a) On the 10th of October all pickets at Shanchun left for Canton. More villagers are crossing the frontier

to Shanchun Market.

Trains are running as usual 1.e.

There is no trade/yet across Deep Bay to

General Lokwan controls the whole coast

line of Mire Bay from Shataukok eastward.

(b) It is reported that no plaketa remain at Macao. They have certainly been withdrawn from the river and also from the barriers on land.

(o) on the 10th of October there appeared in the Canton Gazette a proclamation signed by the Central Executive Committee of the Kuo Min Tang. This announcement while stating that the direct boycott of Hong Kong had been withdrawn referred to "intensifying the anti-imperialist struggle eto," According to information received

unofficially from Canton the 10th of October passed off quietly although processions and demonstrations were held.

I have not yet received from any reliable source

particulare of the speeches made.

Steps are reported

to have been taken to demolish the picket examination

shed and it appears that armed strike pickets have been

completely removed. The general opinion in Canton appears to be that there will be a gradual resumption of trade once the first step has been taken. At the moment the Chinese merchante are hesitating as to who shall take the first step.
