RENTED QUARTERS, AND RENT ALLOWANCES.

109.- (1) An officer not entitled to free quarters, who occupies quarters supplied by the Government, pays rent for auch quarters at the rate of 6% or 7% on salary according as the quarters are unfurnished or furnished.
(2) Senior Officers of the Police Force, of the Prison and Medical Services, who are granted free quarters by reason of the fact that their duties necessitate their residence within or close to the institutions to which they are attached, will pay rent at the rate of 1% on salary for furniture supplied by the Goverment in such quarters. If permitted to reside elsewhere they will pay rent in accordance with these rules. (3) For the purpose of these rules "salary" means the salary of an officer's permanent appointment, together with any pensionable personal allowance which may be granted, converted into dollars at the rate of $10 to the pound.
(4) Subject to the provisions of paragraph (6) an officer on a sterling salary not entitled to free quarters, who rente a tenement with the permission of the Goverment, receives a rent allowance in the sum of the rent and taxes payable in respect of the unfurnished tenement less a sum of 6% of salary.
(5) For the purposes of these rules a "tenement" means a separate house or a self-contained flat of two or more rooms, but does not include accommodation in a hotel or boarding- house or, except with the express approval of the Governor, a single room or two rooms occupied by an officer singly.
(6) For the purposes of paragraph (4) the maximum monthly rental inclusive of taxes which is recognised by the
