At 10.5 a.m. this morning H.E, the Governor informed
me as follows on the telephone :-
About 3 p.m.,esterday, 20th inst, a Police boat ran ashore on the Chinese bank of the SHAM CHUN River in tue vicinity of LO FU Bridge. The Chinese strike pickets arrived on the scene and captured two British Police Sergeants, an Indian Police Constable, and three Chinese Police Constables, and took them away apparently to SHAM CHUN, leavin, the Police
Boat in the river.

With a view to giving moral suport to Police action, you are to proceed with two Subalters Officers and 100 men with Lewis Guns to LO WU in special train leaving Kowloon at 12.30 p.m. to-day. Launch leaves Murray Pier
at 11.40 a.m.
You will on no account proceed North of the SHAM CHUN River, i.e. into Chinese Territory without racoivin, direct orders from me.
You will occupy the high round South of SHAM CHUN River overlooking Chinese Territory.
You will not fire into Chinese Territory on any account unless you are fired at from Chines Territory, i,e. from North of the Sham Chun River. In this latter event

ou may return the fire and take such action as you may consider nccessary so long as you do not cross the SHA CHUN
River.
Major F.C. Roberts, G.S.0.2. will accompany you as representative of the Command Staff.
Police Officers will join you at Tai Po
