Sir,

I have the honour to refer you to Mr.

Churchill's despatch No.32 of the 24th January, 1922, and to inform you that, as the Straits Settlements 7% Bonds

fall due for repayment on the 1st May, 1926, the Hongkong end Shanghai Banking Corporation apply for permission to deposit 5% Debenture Stock of the Singapore Municipality,

which I understand is being issued on the same date, of

the same face value, namely Straits $1,500,000, in

substitution for the War Loan Bonds on security for their

ordinary Note Issue.

I should be glad to learn whether you approve, under Section 13(2) of the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank Ordinance, 1866, of the security which is offered, and if so whether you appoint the trustees named in the enclosure to the above mentioned despatch to receive and hold such security.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient humble servent,

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

LIEUTENANT COLONEL L.C.M. S. AMERY, M.P.,

80..
