My dear Lambert:-

Many thanks for your letter of the 18th about

the governorship of Hongkong.

We certainly have no objection to the appointment

of Cecil Clementi. On the contrary, we have

heard nothing but good of him, and greatly appreciate

your action in choosing a man so eminently acceptable

to us.
