Newfoundland Goverment and the Admiralty has also been

approached as to its operation by a private individual,

but no satisfactory agreement has been reached.

In view of the fact that a medium power valve station

is now being erected at Geisers Hill near Halifax, the

Admiralty propose to close St. John's provided that the new

station will be available for laval needs in war time.

It may however be desirable to maintain St. John'

to prevent the island being isolated in war time.

Under the decision referred to in par.l, the

Admiralty intend re-opening and re-equipping the station

within the next few years, £3 its site is most important

strategically. The station proposed should be of power

adequate to work direct with the high power station at

the Cape.
