Many thanks for your reply of today. I beg

to say that before I left Thaneen I have been speaking to

Kr Vallis and he was of opinion that if it would be dangerDUS

to come into Shameen it would not be helped to leave Chamean

temporarily. It was quite unexpected that the strike would

last long as it is. Now though I can enter 3haneen, but

outside the late there are detectives of the "workmer?

syndicate" they would follow every Thinaman coming out and

doing hara to him, therefore I write to request you te

explain on my behalf to the bnsul General my circumstances

that I left Shameen compulsorily and not willingly and I did

not expect that I have to suffer a punishment, I hope I an

excusable and as it is decided by a meeting to stop pay I

beg to ask you to lend me a sum of money which I am quite in

need of, my wife is in bed, she cannot get up. I have to

pay for medicine and doctor's fee every day. Moreover I

have to pay up all bills at the end of every month for rice,

&o, otherwise I cannot get such thing on credit next month.

I shall be much grateful if you will kindly give me assist-

ance and reply by post using one of the enclosed envelops.

I am sorry to give you so much trouble but hope to be excused.

Your most obedient servant,

Feng Mian Chan
