sir.
In continuation of my despatch No.166 of Uctober 2nd concerning piracy
suppression, I have the honour to trans-
mit herewith copies and translations of
two further reports from General Li fi-
lin concerning the killing and the capture
of a number of pirates (enclosures 2 and
2.) I learn that, since the date of his
second report, some 40 more pirates have been captured or have voluntarily surren-
dered in the Mahning and Sailam neigh-
bourhoods.
That part of the Delta under General Li's control may now be said
to be practically clear, but in other
parts piracies still occur. I wrote
recently to General Li in connection with
the capturing of one launch and the sink-
ing of another by h.M.S. "Robin', as re-
ported in my despatch No.166. General Li
replied that the district between Lintin
and Kongmoon was not included in his area,
but that he had asked General Kau Ch'ung-
chih, Commander-in-Chief of the Cantonese His Majesty's Minister,
Peking.
