I have the honour to inform you that Mr. L.E.Brett, late
Revenue Officer, Hongkong, is employed by the Ink nd Revenue
Department, in a temporary capacity as Process Server, Solicitors
Department, and has been so employed since the 24th. March 1913,
with the exception of a period during the war when he held a
commission in the Chinese Labour Corps.
2. A copy of a letter from Mr. Brett is attached explaining
5.25 why he continued to sign the declaration to the effect that he held
no paid employment under the Crown, which is embodied in our pension
payment forms. We presume that the deletion of this declaration to
which Mr. Brett refers was that made by us during the period of his
war service when he was receiving no pay from the Inland Revenue
Department.
3. We have ascertained from the Inland Revenue Department
that Mr.Brett is in receipt of a weekly wage of £2 plus the current
Civil Service bonus, and we shall be glad to know whether his
employment is of such a nature as to necessitate an abatement of
pension in the event of the authorised limit of pension and pay
being exceeded.
Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
S.W.1.
I have the honour to be,
