Imports and Exports Office.
After careful consideration and discussion with
e Chamber of Commerce it has been decided that the tatistical Department of the Imports and Exports Office hould be abolished as, in present circumstances, the cost f it is out of all proportion to its utility. This will
an a saving of approximately $44,000 made up as follows:-
Salaries $25,000, Printing and stationery $17,000,
d Miscellaneous Expenses $2,000. The post of Supervisor
as been dispensed with. The holder will be transferred to
he post of Office Assistant and Accountant, which is alling vacant, in the Harbour Master's Department,
There
a reduction of $75,000 in the vote for the Purchase of
Opium.
Harbour Master's Department.
Provision is made for one new post in the rbour Master's Department, that of Assistant Inspector Junks and Cargo Boats at Aberdeen. It is anticipated at the creation of this new post will more than pay for self by the increase in Revenue from Aberdeen which will sult. The Revenue Department launch No.1 has been ansferred to the Harbour Master's Department, and ovision for the Rescue Tug must be made for a full year, tead of for the half year only as in the case of last last s Estimates.
