FRONTIER INCIDENTS.
Vide my report of the 24.9.25, relative to the seizure of 37 pigs by Strikers at British Sha Tau Kok, it now is evident that the mmber of pigs actually seised totalled only 25, this latter mumber tallying with the total given me by the officer in charge of the Strikers. The discrepancy in the number of pigs seized as first reported, is due to the cowardice of the master of the Yuen Tai Tean, who fled leaving his wife in the shop. He was afraid to go back and imagined that all his pige had been seised and the shop looted. As a matter of fact, nothing whatever other than the 25 pigs was taken away. The total valge of the 25 pigs seized is approximately $1,100. The pigs were taken to Sham Chun and, from latest information received I hear they are to be sold there by auction.
In accordance with your instructions received, the shopkeepers in British Sha Tau Kok have been told to notify the Police when they intend forwarding pigs or merchandise by train, when adequate protection will be afforded. I am afraid, however, that the shopkeepers will disregard these instructions, as they are all too afraid of doing anything to offend the Strikers, fearing reprisal. Under the present existing conditions their fears are understandable as, day and night, the Stike picquets are posted practically outside their doors.

Sham Chun is again occupied by Chinese troops. Three days ago about 600 of Hui Chai's troops, under the command of a "lui cheung" surnamed Tam, arrived at Sham Chun. Since then other troops have filtered in, including a small detachment of Cadets, so that the total troops now at Sham Chun number about 1,000.
