With reference to my confidential despatch
of the 4th September I have the honour to report the
further course of events in connection with the
local situation.
2.I attach a police report regarding further
incidents on the frontier. The railway drivers and
stokers referred to were taken to Canton and were
sent back to the Colony on the 16th September. They
report that the fire of the police did not cause any casualties among the strike picket.
3.In the early morning of the 6th September the 8.a."Va Shan; owned by Chinese resident in the Colony and flying the Chinese flag, was seized on the high
seas not far from Macao by two armed launches, as
she was on her way from Kwongchauwan with a cargo
of livestock for Hongkong. The vessel was taken to
Canton where her cargo was unloaded. His Majesty's
Consul-General was forthwith requested to enquire
of the Canton Authorities whether they accepted responsibility for the seizure, but no reply has yet been received. Arrangements have been made with the Naval Authorities for preventing such piratical
seizures in future.

LIEUTENANT COLONEL L.C.M.S.AMERY,M.F.,
