Pincott, and Lance Sergeant 51 Nolloth. These three officers, with the assistance of a squad of Chinese detectives, ran the Casual Labour Department, which I have referred to in paragraph 5.

(b) An immense amount of work was perfomed by Inspector T. Murphy, who acted as Chief Detective Inspector while Mr. Grant was managing the casual Labour Department,

(c) Chief Inspector Kent was in charge of the general Transport arrangements for the Colony under Honourable Mr. C. Mel. Messer. He displayed his usual ability, and was also instrumental in keeping a number of Transport Workers from deserting.

(d) Inspector Bond, of the Water Police, did most valuable work in the Harbour. It was he, single-handed, who made the Public Motor Boats return to work. It was also largely due to his efforts that a number of private steam launches and cargo boats resumed their activities.

(e) All the Sergeants in the New Territories worked well, but particularly Lance Sergeant 95 Knowles of Sha Tau Kok. He displayed notable courage on the occasion of the seizure of the 2 junks which were eventually rescued with the aid of H.M.8. "Foxglove". He was under severe rifle and machine gun fire at close range in an open boat. This officer carried on with his work in spite of severe attacks of Malaria, when he should really have been in Hospital. I regret to say that he had to be admitted to Hospital yesterday with a temperature of 105, but he is improving.

(f) Detective Inspector Chu Heung is particularly mentioned by Mr. King as having done extremely good work, He is the Head of the Chinese Detectives. He set an excellent example to his men, and constantly obtained most valuable and reliable infomation.
