The bulk of the extra work caused by the
Strike fell as usual on the Detective Staff. Both Europeans and Chinese had to put in exceedingly long hours,
and did extremely well. I attach a list of Intimidation Cases brought in by Police Officers. It will be remembered that in the 1922 Strike the results shown by the Chinese Detective Staff were very poor.

Remarkable work was done by the Police Casual Labour Department, From 22nd June to 26th July about 25000 coolies were collected and sent out to work. In addition
to supplying the men, the Police officers in charge had in a great many cases to arrange for food for them and for their payment in cash,
With the help of the coolies the China Provident Campany alone was able to shift 170,000 tons of cargo. The Police officers employed in the Casual Labour Department had frequently to work from 5.45 a.m. to 9 p.m.
and sometimes later.

Everyone in the Force worked so well that it is difficult to single out names for special mention. Upon Mr. T. H. King fell all the burden of the preliminary Strike arrangements, as I did not return to the Colony until 9th July. After my return he continued to do most admirable work as Director of Criminal Intelligence. I must also
mention the exceptionally fine work done inthe New Territories by Mr. W. G. Gerrard. He shewed great tact and coolness in dealing with difficult situations, and sent in a series of extremely useful and well written
reports. Kesars. Burlingham, Booth, Scott and Kerr all
worked extremely hard and were of the greatest assistance to Mr. King and myself.
of the subordinate ranks, I would mention
the following:-
(a) Chief Detective Inspector J. Grant, Inspector
Pincott,
