holda, but excepting 24 cases of mineral mters, appeared to be more or less intact. While the sailors were trying to hedge the junks off, I waded ashore, and keeping below high water mark, and therefore in British Territory, I walked up and down the beach for some hundreds of yards in each direction but observed no one except an interested crowd of spectators at Sha Tau Kok (probably villagers).

Finding it impossible, owing to the state of the tide to get the junka afloat, we returned to H.M.3. "Foxglove" just before dark, the captain said he would stand

by all night, and keep his search light on the junks.

I then returned with my party to Sha Tau Kok

Police Station and reported by telephone to Mr. Fletcher.

The Police Launch at Tai Po was ordered to steam to Sha Tau Kok and stand by for orders from the "Toxglove"

At about 12 midnight the "Faxglove", having a seriously ill man en board, left for Hongkong, leaving the Police Launch

on guard.

At about 4.00 a.m. this morning Sub-Inspector Joy, in charge of the launch, managed to get the junks afloat, and towed them up to the head of Starling Inlet, immediately

below the Police Station, and the master was sent for to take

stock of his goods, As far as is know at present, little

has been stolen, though he agrees that the goods had been taken out and replaced in a hurry.

H.M.8. "Foxglove" returned to Sha Tau Kok at

about 10a.m. and the Police launch then returned to Taipo.

I am informed that the entire body of "Cadetɛ",

said te mumber about 110, and the "strikers" left Sha Tau Kok

last night at about 10.00 p.m, taking with then the three detant.

coolies, back to Sham Chun.
