I proceeded forthwith to Sha Tau Kok, accompanied
by the Assistant Superintendent of Pelios New Territories, and Mr. To King Kei, my Chinese interpreter.

At Sha Tau Kok Police Station, we picked up Bergeant Knowles, and proceeded to sail out into Hirs Bay, about 3 miles and finally mat H.M.8. "Foxglove" off In Tin at about 5.10 p.m. and boarded her. I discussed the situation with the Captain, Commander Wootton (?) and found that he only had instructions to recover two pirated junka. I informed him of the real facts of the situation, and he decided to steam in as close as possible and then drop anchor, the ship meantime going to "Action Stations".
On anchoring it was decided to send an amed landing party to try to recover the junks, the landing to be covered by gun fire if any resistance were offered,
On my way out in the Police boat I had and observed several unfomed and other figures moring about on the shore, observing us, and a large group was gathered in the vicinity of a temple on the shore, about & mile East of the position where the junks lay.
On the approach of the "Foxglove" they all disappeared, and the Temple doors were closed,
The Assistant Superintendent of Police, New Territories, Sergeant Knowles and myself accompanied the landing party in two boats, about 10 men in sach under an officer, and amed with rifles and machine guns,
The Captain of H.M.A. "Foxglove" gave his officer instructions net to fire unless fired on first, but promised suppert by gun fire if required.
We boarded the junke withens meeting with any resistance: in fact the whole neighbourhood appeared to be completely deserted. Owing to the state of the tide they wore hard aground and full of cargo, which from its tumbled condition appeared to have been hastily thrown back into the
holds,
