Missionaries to which the Government of Hongkong attach

The Trustees vere unable to concur with paragraph 5 (d) and paragraph 9 of the Memorandum as at present drafted, being of opinion that on the resumption of residence the representatives of the Basel Mission should be allowed to hold property on the same terma as ether missionary
societies operating in the Colony.
3: It was noted that the Secretary of State for the
Colonies had decided to remove any discrimination against German Missionary Societies in regard to missionary work in the Colonies, protectorates and mandated territories under the supervision of the
Colonial Office, and that it is open to the Conference of Missionary Societies of Great Britain and Ireland
to recommend them (German Missionary Societies) for "recognition" by His Majesty's Government under the existing arrangements.
4. The Trustees were of opinion that the correct course
of procedure was for the Basel Society to apply for "recognition" from His Majesty's Government, as they wish to resume work in Hongkong, and that no material alteration should be made in the status at present existing until the reply to that application has been commumicated to the Trustees.
Bubject to your approval a copy of the Memorandum, together with a copy of this letter will be forwarded to Mr. J. H. Oldham, Beeretary of the Conference of Missionary Societies in Great Britain and Ireland, for his information,
