In a letter dated July 23rd, 1923, the Conference

of Missionary Societies submitted certain proposals with

regard to the former dermen missiens working in Hongkong.

In a reply dated January 9th, 1924, (954/1924) we were

informed by the Secretary of State that the Hongkong

Government considered it undesirable that the Basel Mission

should resume work in the Colony, though they had no object-

ien to the return of Mr. Jucker. It was thought at that

time that the other German missiens dià net wish to return

to the Colony and it was suggested that the Trustees should

dispose of their property and hand over the preceeds to the

societies for work in the Kwangtung Province of China.

▲ new situation has been created through the

decision of the Secretary of State to remove any discrimina-

tion against German missionary societies in regard to

missionary work in the colonies, protectorates and mandated

territories under the supervision of the Colenial Office.

Mr. Thomas has stated that it will new be open to the

Conference of Missiemary Societies to recommend German missionary societies for inclusion in the list of societies "recognised" by His Majesty's Goverment under the existing

arrangessants.

The Conference of Missionary Societies, after

consulting with the German societies formerly carrying on

work in Hongkong, desires to submit the following proposals

for the approval of His Majesty's Government. A request for
