I regret that owing to some misunderstanding

I have not previously sent to you the further communication

on the subject of hotel and boarding-house charges which was promised in my telegram of 29th December last.

The figures of course extend over a wide range in view of the differences in character of the

accommodation and position in various establishments. The most expensive establishment is the Hongkong Hotel, at which a single room and board can be obtained at from $200 to $250 a month though it is possible to pay up to $500.

At the Peak Hotel $180 a month is said to be

the average rate.

At the Kowloon Hotel $60 a month for board and $90 for a room is quoted.

At the King Edward Hotel the charge is $180

for a single-room and board.

St. George's House quotes from $140 to $180

a month for a single room and board.

The Repulse Bay Hotel, an excellent Hotel, about twenty minutes or half an hour by motor from Victoria is offering to provide as from October next a single room and board for $175 a month during the summer and $200 during
