THOMAS GORDEN KACIVER states:-

I am Chief Officer of the 8.S. "Hong Hwa". At about 08.40 hours on the 15th inst. whilst taking breakfast at the

starboard side of the boat deck with the Chief and 2nd and 3rd

Engineer and 2nd and 3rd Officers, I heard a police whistle being blown aft. I looked out to see what was wrong and I saw some Chinese running forward towards us. One of them whipped out a revolver and held it to my temple while others rushed in with revolvers and treated the other officers similarly. One of them asked me to take him to my room; I complied and he asked me if I had a revolver. He searched my drawer and I saw him take my automatic pistol and 2 boxes of ammunition out. I was then taken up to the bridge and told to keep the ship on her course. Later the Captain was brought up and I was ordered to my room but was forced to keep my regular watches. I was not robbed of anything

and was treated well.

Lance Sergeant A97.
